Purpose
The editor oversees staff and production in order to ensure a creative and welcoming atmosphere in the office as well as a professional and beautiful literary journal.
Essential Duties
The editor oversees the production, publication, and distribution of the review. The editor selects, supervises, and evaluates staff, meets weekly with the faculty adviser, and serves as spokesperson for the magazine to the University community.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Supervision
- Responsible for recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of 15-20 member staff.
- Responsible for coordinating involvement of approximately 12-20 volunteers.

Policy and Procedure Making, Interpretation, and Implementation
- Responsible for review and implementation of review internal policies and procedures.
- Ensures the organization abides by University policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Budget Management
- Responsible for preparation and presentation of an annual budget to the University.
- Responsible for overall budget management.

Liaison Responsibilities
- Acts as liaison with other chartered student organizations, clubs, University departments, and outside organizations.
- Meets regularly with media adviser.

Staff Leadership and Development
- Develops, presents, and evaluates ongoing staff training and development.
- Coordinates and conducts weekly staff meetings.
- Leads weekly practicum meeting.
- Maintains 5-10 office hours per week.

Chartered Student Leader Responsibilities
- Participates in annual Chartered Student Leader Retreat and other quarterly in-services.
- Provides information, reports, and other University-requested documentation in timely manner.
- Represents organization at appropriate University-wide councils, events, and functions.
- Maintains organization charter through submission of documents and participates in charter review process as established by the University.
- Required to participate in Student Leadership Council and related chartered leader activities.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate SCU student enrolled in at least one course throughout term of appointment.
- Participation in practicum class when requested by Adviser.
- Must meet University Eligability Policy for Participation in Student Activities.
- Prior newspaper and/or santa clara reviewexperience preferred but not required.
- Familiarity with digital layout software; Adobe InDesign knowledge preferred.
- Working knowledge of publishing industry, effective writing, editing, and business management necessary.
- Solid command of English language, literary journal style, and publishing law highly recommended.
